"Kresser argues that science in fact supports the Paleo principles: “There is broad consensus among scientists that our Paleolithic ancestors consumed primarily meat, fish, vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds and starchy tubers.” He rejects the claim that the diet is too labor-intensive for the average person, or that it’s hard to find the ingredients of these ancient diets, citing a plethora of restaurants and new convenience foods such as gluten-/sugar-/soy-free beef jerky, kale chips and grain-free crackers and deserts."
This sentence makes me CRAZY!!!!!!!! "He rejects the claim that the diet is too labor-intensive for the average person, or that it’s hard to find the ingredients of these ancient diets"
Am I not average? Labor intensive HA!
Many in my close circles know that I was advised to eliminate gluten, corn and dairy 3 years ago. It took 9 months to get it all done. The emotional rollar coaster was a longer ride and is mostly down to kiddy-sized. I just wanted to manage the pain and fatigue that has plagued me for nearly 20 years.
My mother cooked mostly from scratch and I knew how to do that. To eliminate the things that I found to be irritating to my systerm also meant that I had quit using many of the short cuts, like canned soup as a casserole binder and othe time savers. But in this new lifestyle, "fast food" means leftovers. Every meal and every snack is "labor intensive".
Even the above mentioned convenience foods are either prohibative in cost or labor intensive to create.
Why the early Saturday morning rant? Because, in continuing to pursue improving my health-the aforementioned modifications only took the edge off and many foods still apparently are irritating my system-I have succumbed to a blood test for 93 food allergies and was advised to "go paleo". And this morning I had a chance to begin to really research it.
Just having a hard time eliminating more foods, that I only eat occasionally anyways. Except the sheep's milk feta cheese from Trader Joe's, I could eat that like candy. I know, it's dairy. My dad ROLLED his eyes at me when I said it wasn't. My dad the scientist taught us well and used the correct scientific names at us on a regular basis.
The premise for going paleo is to heal my gut (meaning the digestive system), restoring it to balance and then challenge it by returning certain foods.
"Moderation in all things" Hubby thinks I passed that last year when I experimented with castor oil liver poultice.
Sigh. Sorry.
We are all on a journey. We must find the path that brings us peace and joy. Sometimes our paths are similar; sometimes they cross. Love you all.
