The picture are not loading well, so I will hold off until I have better/faster connection.
We followed the Silver Thread from Montrose to Pagosa Springs. The mule deer were not worried. Black Canyon is amazing. It's (Hwy 149) a tribute to the tenacity of miners and early explorers to imagine moving through those mountains and passes on horseback and with a pack train. Wolf Creek Pass was as impressive as Ben bragged. One of his favorite trucking stories involves the view from Wolf Creek Pass.
Going down to the East Portal on the Gunnison River, we saw an animal moved along the side of the road and up the embankment. I saw color and thought fox. But when it turned into the bush...LYNX. I got pictures this time (as opposed to the mountain lion sighting on the road coming out of Honeymoon Campground).
We will be contributing to the great state of Colorado for rushing through the beautiful scenery and not taking enough time to enjoy the drive from Wolf Creek Pass to Pagosa Springs.
Back to Durango in the morning and try to get the one seat on the airline, and a faster internet connection for the rest of the fall colors, geology, and one lynx pictures.
